Mentorship at Threads

In 2021 we updated our community values and pulled together our “culture code”. One of the commitments we made was that we would be better at providing more mentorship connections within our internal community.

Why mentorship is important

Since then, in our eNPS surveys, a repeat topic has been development and progression within Threads. Mentoring is key to helping people progress in their careers, and as we have so many ambitious and talented people who want to supercharge their development we know this is going to be well received!

What is mentorship though?

Mentorship can take many forms, from informal “in the flow” guidance that helps you make better decisions, to structured sessions with pre-agreed goals & a signed agreement between mentor and mentee. We will help to identify what the best type of mentorship structure is for you, and who would be a good mentor to help you.

External partners

The third pillar for the program which is in the beta phase is external partnerships, where our community becomes mentors to future talent through charities and educational partnerships. This is still a work in progress, but if you have any suggestions for partnerships that we can consider, send them over to learning@threadsstyling.com.

For round 3 of Mentoring @ Threads, we have an opportunity to offer the chance to have an external mentor via AllBright. AllBright is a global community for women looking to further their careers, make connections and drive change for women in business.

‘Female entrepreneurs have a tough time raising funds. Women-led startups received just 2.3% of venture capital funding in 2020’.

Threads pillar: Ultimately every sale, initiative and relationship is critical to our mission and north star.

Reverse mentorship

We are launching reverse mentoring as the second pillar of our mentorship program. Reverse mentoring acknowledges that the more senior person is the one who is looking for a fresh outlook. We are looking to explore the option of reverse mentorship as part of Threads being more open and transparent, and to provide the opportunity to help influence our decisions as a business. Reverse mentorship helps to provide multiple new learnings through connecting different generations, cultures, and backgrounds across the business with leadership.

Are you interested in being a reverse mentor or being reverse mentored? You can find more information on the topic here.

Want to be a mentor?

This round we’re going to approach this slightly differently, we will be gauging who would like to be mentored and then we will work on finding mentors across the business. If you would like to be a mentor then please reach out to learning@threadsstyling.com.

Sounds good! What is expected of me?

Your skills and knowledge mainly. How much of it depends on who you are working with and what cadence you wish to set for your mentoring journey. That time commitment will vary from individual to individual and so the People team is here to support you along the way.

How do I get involved?

Currently, we’d love to hear from you — our Threads community — about whether you’re interested in being mentored. You can express your interest here and we’ll be in touch with the next steps.
